He Understands Us

god-understandsI piddle at song writing.  In my mind, my songs sound much better than they do in real life but I do it anyway. Most of these little choruses will never see the light of day.  But I always think that maybe if someone who could really play and sing would work with them maybe they would have a real life beyond my little yellow pads.  One such chorus is below:

Now to Him who is able to do much more than we can think

Now to Him who is able to do much more than we can imagine

To Him who is able to hold creation in His hands

To Him who is able to reach down and understand a man

To Him be the glory for all generations

To Him be the glory forever and ever

Listen (but don’t laugh) here.

This chorus connects directly with the idea I was mulling this morning about Jesus understanding us.  In Hebrews, the author tells of a high priest who lived our experiences and knows what it like to suffer and thereby sympathizes with us.

For we have not a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (Heb. 4:15–16)

He holds creation in His hands and yet is able to reach down and understand a man (woman).  That encourages me!
